The paint was actually in really good shape up here The area in between the seats which was damaged seemed to have been from something like a spilled soda which got under the entertainment console I also removed most of the old seam sealer as it was getting hard and was lifting up in several spots

A little background: I put up new sheetrock on the ceiling and bought paintable 12 x 12 glue-up ceiling tiles that look like the old tin ceilings The ceiling however was sloping towards the light The plasterer was supposed to level the ceiling so that I could put the ceiling tiles up Now instead of at least having a flat (albeit sloped) surface on which to glue tiles I have a complete mess that I'll need to rip down He just slapped plaster up there There isn't a flat surface on which to glue the tiles

here is the repair after removing the waxed paper and staples it has been lightly sanded and the colour change in the veneer is easy to see The fault along the top edge is where there was a defect in the veneer I will fill it with epoxy This repair was my first and quite crude in some ways When I stapled the veneer shifted and I ended up with significant glue lines I didn't really trim the cutout square so I think it looks bad It is very solid though

For the use and good and profit of anyone who wants to enter this profession nCennino Cennini sometime before 1437 n TO PREPARE THE PANEL ( either or oil or egg tempera) nPART 1: SIZING nCoating or soaking a material -- wood paper or cloth --with a gluelike substance which acts as an absorption barrier is called sizing The glue is called size A panel of masonite or similar particle board (Older books warn about tempered masonite but there is no such thing any more) or a well cured and dried hardwood panel not too large n Dry granulated rabbitskin glue n Distilled water (tap water will probably do but it's better not to risk mineral contamination causing problems down the line) n A double boiler n Measuring cups and spoons n Sandpaper medium grit n A dust mask n A large inexpensive priming brush n1 Mix the rabbitskin glue: Sprinkle 1 12 tablespoons of dry glue granules into one cup of water (This makes an amount suitable for a large panel or several small ones I regret my appalling American ignorance of the metric system which leaves me at a loss to convert these measurements) Stir briefly then allow to soak overnight (In a pinch you can simply proceed but a soak of at least a few hours makes a better glue) n2 Sand the smooth side (or both if they are both smooth) of the masonite until it is no longer shiny n3 The next day warm up the glue mix in the double boiler until it is quite hot Do not allow it to boil Stir it smooth this should not take long n4 Using the priming brush brush the warm glue onto the panel wetting it thoroughly but not leaving puddles I do one side of the panel and the edges then let it dry overnight and do the other side nNOTES: The glue if you have any left over will cool to a rubbery gelatin Just warm it up again when you need to use it nBut don't make more than you will use in a few days It will go bad Very bad nYou could do more than one coat of glue but usually one should suffice
