served as priest during the second half of the fourth month of the Biblical calendar which would have put at about late June the Biblical calendar begins in the spring with PassoverFifteen months later would place the birth of Jesus in the seventh month of the Biblical calendar That would be in the fall of the year in either late September or October His conception not his birth would have Biblical holidays teaches us something unique and wonderful about our relationship with God our Creator Sustainer and Provider Just as the spring festivals have been made fuller with the first coming of Jesus as our Suffering Servant it is expected that the fall festivals are shadows of what is yet to come Colossians 21617 when He returns as Conquering KingThe Feast of Tabernacles called Sukkot in Hebrew is a joyous celebration lasting for eight days The first and final days are both holy sabbaths days of rest and no work There are two main elements to the Feast of Tabernacles the building of booths called sukkot and sacrifices There is also an element of the annual harvest There are many spiritual lessons in each of these elements lessons that speak to the inclusion of righteous Gentiles in the family of Israel which is the true mystery of the Gospel God commands that the Feast of Tabernacles Sukkot be a season of joy and rejoicingSukkot commemorates the time when the Children of Israel were redeemed from bondage in Egypt The building of these booths during Sukkot is a yearly reminder of how God was with His children protecting them and providing for all of their needs We are also reminded that our lives are but a vapor these bodies are only our temporary dwelling placesTradition has taught for thousands of years that the week is a picture of Godacircs plan for His creation There are six days in which we are do all of our work while the seventh day is to be a day of rest It is taught that the Messiah will come to reign as the Conquering King at the end of the sixth millennium The dawn of the seventh millennium will usher in the Millennial Reign of our King a millennial Sabbath The Feast of Tabernacles however has an eighth day what does that symbolize The number eight signifies eternity We joyfully look forward to the reign of our Master on the seventh day and on the eighth day the final Sabbath of the festival we joyfully look forward to spending eternity with our God and our King This truly is a festival of joy and rejoicing Arenacirct we blessed to have His WordWhy The Feast of TabernaclesIn Leviticus 23 we have a record of the calendar that God outlined for His children to keep He had redeemed the children of Israel from Egypt Along with them were many people from other nations who had joined themselves to the God of the Hebrews and they too were included in this multitude of people who became known as acircThe Children of Godacirc We know that Rahab and her family were accepted Gentiles as was Ruth the daughter in law of Naomi These women are counted in the lineage of Jesus But do you remember Caleb the son of Jephunneh one of the 12 spies He was a Caananite that left Egypt with the children of Israel He too was one of those nonHebrews who were grafted into Israel He was one of the multitude in the wilderness who accepted the terms of the covenant between God and Israel and included in this covenant is Godacircs calendarWe read about the Feast of Tabernacles in Leviticus 233344 where we read acircIt is a statute forever throughout your generations you shall celebrate it in the seventh monthacirc Did you catch that acircForever throughout your generationsacircThe Feast of Tabernacles was kept by Jesus as we read in John 7 the Apostles also kept this festival as did the early church We have early church writings that tell us that believers kept these festivals right up through fourth century and beyond To be sure some Christians have never stopped keeping the festivalsIn Zechariah 14 where the prophet is speaking of the state of the world after the return of the Lord we read in verse 16 acircThen everyone who survives of all the nations that have come against Jerusalem shall go up year after year to worship the King the LORD of hosts and to keep the Feast of TabernaclesacircWe see that as acircgrafted inacirc believers we have kept this festival in the past many keep it currently and everyone in all the nations of the world will be keeping this festival in the future when Messiah reigns from the throne of David in Jerusalem Every knee will bow every tongue will confess and all
