Kind of Blue isn't merely an artistic highlight for Miles Davis it's an album that towers above its peers a record generally considered as the definitive jazz album a universally acknowledged standard of excellence Why does Kind of Blue posses such a mystique Perhaps because this music never flaunts its genius It lures listeners in with the slow luxurious bassline and gentle piano chords of So What From that moment on the record never really changes pace -- each tune has a similar relaxed feel as the music flows easily Yet Kind of Blue is more than easy listening It's the pinnacle of modal jazz -- tonality and solos build from the overall key not chord changes giving the music a subtly shifting quality All of this doesn't quite explain why seasoned jazz fans return to this record even after they've memorized every nuance They return because this is an exceptional band -- Miles Coltrane Bill Evans Cannonball Adderley Paul Chambers Jimmy Cobb -- one of the greatest in history playing at the peak of its power As Evans said in the original liner notes for the record the band did not play through any of these pieces prior to recording Davis laid out the themes before the tape rolled and then the band improvised The end results were wondrous and still crackle with vitality Kind of Blue works on many different levels It can be played as background music yet it amply rewards close listening It is advanced music that is extraordinarily enjoyable It may be a stretch to say that if you don't like Kind of Blue you don't like jazz -- but it's hard to imagine it as anything other than a cornerstone of any jazz collectionnThroughout a professional career lasting 50 years Miles Davis played the trumpet in a lyrical introspective and melodic style often employing a stemless Harmon mute to make his sound more personal and intimate But if his approach to his instrument was constant his approach to jazz was dazzlingly protean To examine his career is to examine the history of jazz from the mid-'40s to the early '90s since he was in the thick of almost every important innovation and stylistic development in the music during that period and he often led the way in those changes both with his own performances and recordings and by choosing sidemen and collaborators who forged new directions It can even be argued that jazz stopped evolving when Davis wasn't there to push it forwardnnDavis was the son of a dental surgeon Dr Miles Dewey Davis Jr and a music teacher Cleota Mae (Henry) Davis and thus grew up in the black middle class of east St Louis after the family moved there shortly after his birth He became interested in music during his childhood and by the age of 12 began taking trumpet lessons While still in high school he started to get jobs playing in local bars and at 16 was playing gigs out of town on weekends At 17 he joined Eddie Randle's Blue Devils a territory band based in St Louis He enjoyed a personal apotheosis in 1944 just after graduating from high school when he saw and was allowed to sit in with Billy Eckstine's big band who was playing in St Louis The band featured trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie and saxophonist Charlie Parker the architects of the emerging bebop style of jazz which was characterized by fast inventive soloing and dynamic rhythm variations It is striking that Davis fell so completely under Gillespie and Parker's spell since his own slower and less flashy style never really compared to theirs But bebop was the new sound of the day and the young trumpeter was bound to follow it He did so by leaving the Midwest to attend the Institute of Musical Art in New York City (renamed Juilliard) in September 1944 Shortly after his arrival in Manhattan he was playing in clubs with Parker and by 1945 he had abandoned his academic studies for a full-time career as a jazz musician initially joining Benny Carter's band and making his first recordings as a sideman He played with Eckstine in 1946-1947 and was a member of Parker's group in 1947-1948 making his recording debut as a leader on a 1947 session that featured Parker pianist John Lewis bassist Nelson Boyd and drummer Max Roach This was an isolated date however and Davis spent most of his time playing and recording behind Parker But in the summer of 1948 he organized a nine-piece band with an unusual horn section In addition to himself it featured an alto saxophone a baritone saxophone a trombone a French horn and a tuba This nonet employing arrangements by Gil Evans and others played for two weeks at the Royal Roost in New York in September Earning a contract with Capitol Records the band went into the studio in January 1949 for the first of three sessions which produced 12 tracks that attracted little attention at first The band's relaxed sound however affected the musicians who played it among them Kai Winding Lee Konitz Gerry Mulligan John Lewis JJ Johnson and Kenny Clarke and it had a profound influence on the development of the cool jazz style on the West Coast In February 1957 Capitol finally issued the tracks together on an LP called Birth of the Cool Davis meanwhile had moved on to co-leading a band with pianist Tadd Dameron in 1949 and the group took him out of the country for an appearance at the Paris Jazz Festival in May But the trumpeter's progress was impeded by an addiction to heroin that plagued him in the early '50s His performances and recordings became more haphazard but in January 1951 he began a long series of recordings for the Prestige label that became his main recording outlet for the next several years He managed to kick his habit by the middle of the decade and he made a strong impression playing 'Round Midnight at the Newport Jazz Festival in July 1955 a performance that led the major label Columbia Records to sign him The prestigious contract allowed him to put together a permanent band and he organized a quintet featuring saxophonist John Coltrane pianist Red Garland bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Philly Joe Jones who began recording his Columbia debut 'Round About Midnight in October As it happened however he had a remaining five albums on his Prestige contract and over the next year he was forced to alternate his Columbia sessions with sessions for Prestige to fulfill this previous commitment The latter resulted in the Prestige albums The New Miles Davis Quintet Cookin' Workin' Relaxin' and Steamin' making Davis' first quintet one of his better-documented outfits In May 1957 just three months after Capitol released the Birth of the Cool LP Davis again teamed with arranger Gil Evans for his second Columbia LP Miles Ahead Playing flgelhorn Davis fronted a big band on music that extended the Birth of the Cool concept and even had classical overtones Released in 1958 the album was later inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame intended to honor recordings made before the Grammy Awards were instituted in 1959 In December 1957 Davis returned to Paris where he improvised the background music for the film L'Ascenseur pour l'Echafaud (Escalator to the Gallows) Jazz Track an album containing this music earned him a 1960 Grammy nomination for Best Jazz Performance Solo or Small Group He added saxophonist Cannonball Adderley to his group creating the Miles Davis Sextet who recorded the album Milestones in April 1958 Shortly after this recording Red Garland was replaced on piano by Bill Evans and Jimmy Cobb took over for Philly Joe Jones on drums In July Davis again collaborated with Gil Evans and an orchestra on an album of music from Porgy and Bess Back in the sextet Davis began to experiment with modal playing basing his improvisations on scales rather than chord changes This led to his next band recording Kind of Blue in March and April 1959 an album that became a landmark in modern jazz and the most popular disc of Davis' career eventually selling over two million copies a phenomenal success for a jazz record In sessions held in November 1959 and March 1960 Davis again followed his pattern of alternating band releases and collaborations with Gil Evans recording Sketches of Spain containing traditional Spanish music and original compositions in that style The album earned Davis and Evans Grammy nominations in 1960 for Best Jazz Performance Large Group and Best Jazz Composition More Than 5 minutes they won in the latter categorynnBy the time Davis returned to the studio to make his next band album in March 1961 Adderley had departed Wynton Kelly had replaced Bill Evans at the piano and John You It's classic if often overlooked music from a variety of immortal jazzmen nnThroughout a professional career lasting 50 years Miles Davis played the trumpet in a lyrical introspective and melodic style often employing a stemless Harmon mute to make his sound more personal and intimate But if his approach to his instrument was constant his approach to jazz was dazzlingly protean To examine his career is to examine the history of jazz from the mid-'40s to the early '90s since he was in the thick of almost every important innovation and stylistic development in the music during that period and he often led the way in those changes both with his own performances and recordings and by choosing sidemen and collaborators who forged new directions It can even be argued that jazz stopped evolving when Davis wasn't there to push it forwardnnDavis was the son of a dental surgeon Dr Miles Dewey Davis Jr and a music teacher Cleota Mae (Henry) Davis and thus grew up in the black middle class of east St Louis after the family moved there shortly after his birth He became interested in music during his childhood and by the age of 12 began taking trumpet lessons While still in high school he started to get jobs playing in local bars and at 16 was playing gigs out of town on weekends At 17 he joined Eddie Randle's Blue Devils a territory band based in St Louis He enjoyed a personal apotheosis in 1944 just after graduating from high school when he saw and was allowed to sit in with Billy Eckstine's big band who was playing in St Louis The band featured trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie and saxophonist Charlie Parker the architects of the emerging bebop style of jazz which was characterized by fast inventive soloing and dynamic rhythm variations It is striking that Davis fell so completely under Gillespie and Parker's spell since his own slower and less flashy style never really compared to theirs But bebop was the new sound of the day and the young trumpeter was bound to follow it He did so by leaving the Midwest to attend the Institute of Musical Art in New York City (renamed Juilliard) in September 1944 Shortly after his arrival in Manhattan he was playing in clubs with Parker and by 1945 he had abandoned his academic studies for a full-time career as a jazz musician initially joining Benny Carter's band and making his first recordings as a sideman He played with Eckstine in 1946-1947 and was a member of Parker's group in 1947-1948 making his recording debut as a leader on a 1947 session that featured Parker pianist John Lewis bassist Nelson Boyd and drummer Max Roach This was an isolated date however and Davis spent most of his time playing and recording behind Parker But in the summer of 1948 he organized a nine-piece band with an unusual horn section In addition to himself it featured an alto saxophone a baritone saxophone a trombone a French horn and a tuba This nonet employing arrangements by Gil Evans and others played for two weeks at the Royal Roost in New York in September Earning a contract with Capitol Records the band went into the studio in January 1949 for the first of three sessions which produced 12 tracks that attracted little attention at first The band's relaxed sound however affected the musicians who played it among them Kai Winding Lee Konitz Gerry Mulligan John Lewis JJ Johnson and Kenny Clarke and it had a profound influence on the development of the cool jazz style on the West Coast In February 1957 Capitol finally issued the tracks together on an LP called Birth of the Cool Davis meanwhile had moved on to co-leading a band with pianist Tadd Dameron in 1949 and the group took him out of the country for an appearance at the Paris Jazz Festival in May But the trumpeter's progress was impeded by an addiction to heroin that plagued him in the early '50s His performances and recordings became more haphazard but in January 1951 he began a long series of recordings for the Prestige label that became his main recording outlet for the next several years He managed to kick his habit by the middle of the decade and he made a strong impression playing 'Round Midnight at the Newport Jazz Festival in July 1955 a performance that led the major label Columbia Records to sign him The prestigious contract allowed him to put together a permanent band and he organized a quintet featuring saxophonist John Coltrane pianist Red Garland bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Philly Joe Jones who began recording his Columbia debut 'Round About Midnight in October As it happened however he had a remaining five albums on his Prestige contract and over the next year he was forced to alternate his Columbia sessions with sessions for Prestige to fulfill this previous commitment The latter resulted in the Prestige albums The New Miles Davis Quintet Cookin' Workin' Relaxin' and Steamin' making Davis' first quintet one of his better-documented outfits In May 1957 just three months after Capitol released the Birth of the Cool LP Davis again teamed with arranger Gil Evans for his second Columbia LP Miles Ahead Playing flgelhorn Davis fronted a big band on music that extended the Birth of the Cool concept and even had classical overtones Released in 1958 the album was later inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame intended to honor recordings made before the Grammy Awards were instituted in 1959 In December 1957 Davis returned to Paris where he improvised the background music for the film L'Ascenseur pour l'Echafaud (Escalator to the Gallows) Jazz Track an album containing this music earned him a 1960 Grammy nomination for Best Jazz Performance Solo or Small Group He added saxophonist Cannonball Adderley to his group creating the Miles Davis Sextet who recorded the album Milestones in April 1958 Shortly after this recording Red Garland was replaced on piano by Bill Evans and Jimmy Cobb took over for Philly Joe Jones on drums In July Davis again collaborated with Gil Evans and an orchestra on an album of music from Porgy and Bess Back in the sextet Davis began to experiment with modal playing basing his improvisations on scales rather than chord changes This led to his next band recording Kind of Blue in March and April 1959 an album that became a landmark in modern jazz and the most popular disc of Davis' career eventually selling over two million copies a phenomenal success for a jazz record In sessions held in November 1959 and March 1960 Davis again followed his pattern of alternating band releases and collaborations with Gil Evans recording Sketches of Spain containing traditional Spanish music and original compositions in that style The album earned Davis and Evans Grammy nominations in 1960 for Best Jazz Performance Large Group and Best Jazz Composition More Than 5 minutes they won in the latter categorynnBy the time Davis returned to the studio to make his next band album in March 1961 Adderley had departed Wynton Kelly had replaced Bill Evans at the piano and John Coltrane had left to begin his successful solo career being replaced by saxophonist Hank Mobley (following the brief tenure of Sonny Stitt) Nevertheless Coltrane guested on a couple of tracks of the album called Someday My Prince Will Come The record made the pop charts in March 1962 but it was preceded into the bestseller lists by the Davis quintet's next recording the two-LP set Miles Davis in Person (Friday amp Saturday Nights at the Blackhawk San Francisco) recorded in April The following month Davis recorded another live show as he and his band were joined by an orchestra led by Gil Evans at Carnegie Hall in May The resulting Miles Davis at Carnegie Hall was his third LP to reach the pop charts and it earned Davis and Evans a 1962 Grammy nomination for Best Jazz Performance by a Large Group Instrumental Davis and Evans teamed up again in 1962 for what became their final collaboration Quiet Nights The album was not issued until 1964 when it reached the charts and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Instrumental Jazz Performance by a Large Group or Soloist with Large Group In 1996 Columbia Records released a six-CD box set Miles Davis amp Gil Evans: The Complete Columbia Studio Recordings that won the Grammy for Best Historical Album Quiet Nights was preceded into the marketplace by Davis' next band effort Seven Steps to Heaven recorded in the spring of 1963 with an entirely new lineup consisting of saxophonist George Coleman pianist Victor Feldman bassist Ron Carter and drummer Frank Butler During the sessions Feldman was replaced by Herbie Hancock and Butler by Tony Williams The album found Davis making a transition to his next great group of which Carter Hancock and Williams would be members It was another pop chart entry that earned 1963 Grammy nominations for both Best Instrumental Jazz Performance by a Soloist or Small Group and Best Instrumental Jazz Performance by a Large Group The quintet followed with two live albums Miles Davis in Europe recorded in July 1963 which made the pop charts and earned a 1964 Grammy nomination for Best Instrumental Jazz Performance by a Small Group or Soloist with Small Group and My Funny Valentine recorded in February 1964 and released in 1965 when it reached the pop charts By September 1964 the final member of the classic Miles Davis Quintet of the 1960s was in place with the addition of saxophonist Wayne Shorter to the team of Davis Carter Hancock and Williams While continuing to play standards in concert this unit embarked on a series of albums of original compositions contributed by the band members starting in January 1965 with ESP followed by Miles Smiles (1967 Grammy nomination for Best Instrumental Jazz Performance by a Small Group or Soloist with Small Group 7 or Fewer) Sorcerer Nefertiti Miles in the Sky (1968 Grammy nomination for Best Instrumental Jazz Performance by a Small Group or Soloist with Small Group) and Filles de Kilimanjaro By the time of Miles in the Sky the group had begun to turn to electric instruments presaging Davis' next stylistic turn By the final sessions for Filles de Kilimanjaro in The universe hierarchy levels found in The Book Of AbrahamnIn the previous paper I have proposed how the records for the variable measurements of big G can be used to show the actual hierarchical system of our universe It is quite a simple system being made up of multiple levels of astronomical bodies revolving about central massive energetic bodies Summarising the Earth spins around the sun the solar system spins around the centre of our galaxy Sagittarius A our galaxy spins around a yet unknown centre of galaxies and this centre of galaxies spins around the central core of the universe I have numbered these levels Macrospin level 1 to 5 Only 4 spin levels (1 to 4) have a central core orbiting another level Level 5 has a unique body the core of the universe the centre of all existence which spins about its own axis Surprisingly enough we found mention of such a system in documents dating back to 509BC which were apparently copies of originals which had been passed over from the days of Abraham living at about 2000BC Not only were these astronomical bodies mentioned but also named with some details about their periodicity and energy levelsnnIn July 1835 an Irishman named Michael Chandler brought a traveling exhibition of four Egyptian mummies and papyri to Kirtland Ohio then home of the Mormons The papyri contained Egyptian hieroglyphics Joseph Smith Jr the founder of the Latter Day Saint movement examined the scrolls in the exhibit and noted that some of the text was recognizable because of its similarity to the text from the golden plates of the Book of Mormon The church purchased the four mummies and the papyri for 2400 The Joseph Smith Papyri have been now determined to be from the late Ptolemaic or early Roman period 753-509BC which is at least 1500 years after Abrahamacircs lifetime Apologists respond that the papyri need only be copies of the original written by Abraham and also claim that there exist some Egyptian scrolls from the same time period that clearly contain the name of Abraham The Book of Abraham is the translated text from these acquired papyri published as part of the Pearl of Great Price one of the four canonical scriptures of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints The church has never to our knowledge taken any action on this work either to indorse or condemn so it cannot be said to be a church publication nor can the church be held to answer for the correctness of its teaching nnA full copy of the Book Of Abraham is available here nThe 4 beasts with eyes (lights) and wings (motion) each in its sphere of creation represent the 4 central cores found in the centre of hierarchy levels 1 to 4 Unlike the other cores of which a plurality of them can exist Kolob is unique and usually described as the residence of God Unlike the other 4 cores it is a single star whose motion is described as revolutions that is spinning about its own axis not orbiting around any other core The fourth beast is Earth's spinning core It does not require much imagination to conclude that as our earth expands (we have enough evidence for this) and therefore gets heavier its core will radiate more energy its continents will move apart and the melted iron core will divour all the land into hot molten metal matching Daniel's description for the fourth beast With all this information I can now refine the details set forward in my previous paper as shown below nnnModern astronomy will agree with this model up to the Sagittarius A level Beyond this hierarchy level no one knows anything even if most researchers would agree that they cannot exclude the possibility of the existence of higher hierarchy levels and that the highest known level could in fact be rotating about some yet unknown centre of the universe Also another interesting fact is the mentioning of the energy medium for each hierarchy level Today we call this in a generalised way by 'vacuum' but as described in many parts of my website this vacuum is also known to be made up of energy itself It is therefore obvious that the vacuum energy or zero point energy or the ratio of TS for each hierarchy level is different for each level that is for each level referred to as spheres of creation and this supports my point that all known physical parameters which I showed to be based on ratios of T and S vary with their position on the universe One must stop and think how our modern astronomy and the whole science would change once we accept the fact that the speed of light changes quite abruptly while passing from one hierarchy level to the next We are like fish viewing the outside world from under water Not only the speed of light but all physical constants we are used to know as 'constants of free space' nhttp:blazelabscomf-u-freeasp

Diego de Landa Caldern (12 November 1524 1579) was Bishop of Yucatn He left future generations with a mixed legacy in his writings which contain much valuable information on pre-Columbian Maya civilization and his actions which destroyed much of that civilization's history literature and traditions He is a major figure in the so-called Black Legend - Born in Cifuentes Guadalajara Spain he became a Franciscan monk in 1541 and was soon sent as one of the first Franciscans to the Yucatn Landa was in charge of bringing the Roman Catholic faith to the Maya peoples after the Spanish conquest of Yucatn He presided over a spiritual monopoly granted to the Catholic order of Franciscans by the Spanish crown and worked diligently to buttress the order's power while converting the indigenous Maya His initial appointment was to the mission of San Antonio in Izamal which served also as his primary residence while in Yucatn He is the author of the Relacin de las Cosas de Yucatn in which he catalogues the Maya language religion culture and writing system This manuscript was written around 1566 on his return to Spain however the original copies have long since been lost The account is known to us only as an abridgement which in turn had undergone several iterations by various copyists The extant version was produced around 1660 and was discovered by the nineteenth century French cleric Charles Etienne Brasseur de Bourbourg in 1862 Brasseur de Bourbourg published the manuscript two years later in a bilingual French-Spanish edition entitled Relation des choses de Yucatn de Diego de Landa - After hearing of Roman Catholic Maya who continued to practice idol worship he ordered an Inquisition in Mani ending with a ceremony called auto de fe During the ceremony on July 12 1562 a disputed number of Maya codices (or books Landa admits to 27 other sources claim 99 times as many) and approximately 5000 Maya cult images were burned The actions of Landa passed into the Black Legend of the Spanish in the Americas Only three Pre-Columbian books of Maya hieroglyphics (also known as a codex) and perhaps fragments of a fourth are known to have survived Collectively these works are known as the Maya codices - Landa's Inquisition showered a level of physical abuse upon the indigenous Maya that many viewed as excessive and was at the very least unusual Scores of Maya nobles were jailed pending interrogation and large numbers of Maya nobles and commoners were subjected to examination under hoisting During hoisting a victim's hands were bound and looped over an extended line that was then raised until the victim's entire body was suspended in the air Often stone weights were added to the ankles or lashes applied to the back during interrogation Some contemporary observers were troubled by this widespread use of torture Crown fiat had earlier exempted indigenous peoples from the authority of the Inquisition on the grounds that their understanding of Christianity was too childish to be held culpable for heresies Additionally Landa dispensed with much of the extensive formal procedure and documentation that accompanied Spanish torture and interrogation - Scholars have argued Mexican inquisitions showed little concern to eradicate magic or convict individuals for heterodox beliefs1 and that witchcraft was treated more as a religious problem capable of being resolved through confession and absolution Diego de Landa however was monomaniacal in his fervor2 against it Landa believed a huge underground network of apostasies3 led by displaced indigenous priests were jealous of the power the Church enjoyed and sought to reclaim it for themselves These apostates Landa surmised had launched a counteroffensive against the Church and he believed it was his duty to expose the evil before it could revert the population to their old heathen ways Landa claims he had discovered evidence of human sacrifice and other idolatrous practices while rooting out native idolatry Although one of the alleged victims of said sacrifices Mani encomendero Dasbats was later found to be alive and Landas enemies contested his right to run an inquisition4 Landa insisted the Papal Bull Exponi nobis justified his actions5 Lopez de Cogolludo Landas chief Franciscan biographer wrote of Landas first hand experiences with human sacrifices When Landa first came to the Yucatan he made it his mission to walk the breadth of the peninsula and preach to the most remote villages6 While passing through Cupules he came upon a group numbering 300 that was about to sacrifice a young boy Enraged Landa stormed through the crowd released the boy smashed the idols and began preaching with such zeal and sincerity that they begged him to remain in the land and teach them more Landa was remarkable in that he was willing to go where no others would He entered lands only recently conquered where native resentment of Spaniards was still very intense Armed with nothing but the conviction to learn as much of native culture as he could so that it would be easier for him to destroy it the future7 Landa formulated an intimate contact with natives Natives placed him in such an esteemed position they were willing to show him some of their sacred writings that had been transcribed on deerskin books8 To Landa and the other Franciscan friars the very existence of these Mayan codices was proof of diabolical practices In references to these books Landa has said: We found a large number of books in these characters and as they contained nothing in which were not to be seen as superstition and lies of the devil we burned them all which they (the Maya) regretted to an amazing degree and which caused them much affliction9 Landas insistence of widespread cults throughout the Yucatan is backed by ample evidence Rituals the Spanish conquerors could not understand were labeled as idolatry superstition or even devil worship One such ritual involved clay idols that were used in a strange combination of Catholicism and indigenous religion10 During these ceremonies individuals would be crucified then have their hearts removed from their chest and their blood smeared onto the idols Such ceremonies were practiced throughout the Yucatan up to 45 years after the arrival of the Spaniards Landa himself was never in doubt of the necessity of his inquisition Whether magic and idolatry were being practiced or not there can be little doubt Landa was possessed by fantasies of demonic power in a new land11 Landa like most Franciscans of the time subscribed to millenarian ideas12 which demanded the mass conversion of as many souls as possible before the turn of the century Eliminating evil and pagan practices Landa believed would usher the Second Coming of Christ that much sooner Many historians believe there can be little doubt old traditions would continue even during Spanish rule and because of the resilience of the old social order and the determination of its custodians to sustain the old ways some human killings persisted into the post-conquest period13 While it was likely that Landa did coerce exaggerated confessions through the use of torture he believed so fully that human sacrifice was occurring around him that he was willing to murder a handful of sinners to save overall community14 Landas Relacion De Las Cosas De Yucatan is about as complete a treatment of Mayan religion as we are likely to ever have15 While controversy surrounds Landas use of force in the conversion process few scholars would debate the general accuracy of his recordings Allen Wells calls his work an ethnographic masterpiece16 while William J Folan Laraine A Fletcher and Ellen R Kintz have written that Landas account of Maya social organization and towns before conquest is a gem17 Landas writings are our main contemporary source for Mayan history18 without which our collective knowledge of Mayan ethnology would be devastatingly small19 While Landa might have exaggerated some claims to justify his actions to his accusers his intimate contact with natives and all around accuracy in other fields heavily implies his version of events has at least some truth in it editConsecrated as bishop Landa was sent back to Spain by Bishop Toral to stand trial for conducting an illegal Inquisition His actions were strongly condemned before the Council of the Indies This resulted in a committee of doctors being commissioned to investigate Landa's alleged crimes In 1569 the committee absolved Landa of his crimes Bishop Toral died in Mexico in 1571 allowing King Phillip II of Spain to appoint Landa as the fourth appointed bishop of Yucatn - Landa's Relacin also created a valuable record of the Mayan writing system which despite its inaccuracies was later to prove instrumental in the later decipherment of the writing system Landa asked his informants (his primary sources were two Maya individuals descended from a ruling Maya dynasty literate in the script) to write down the glyphic symbols corresponding to each of the letters of the (Spanish) alphabet in the belief that there ought to be a one-to-one correspondence between them The results were faithfully reproduced by Landa in his later account although he recognised that the set contained apparent inconsistencies and duplicates which he was unable to explain Later researchers reviewing this material also formed the view that the de Landa alphabet was inaccurate or fanciful and many subsequent attempts to use this transcription remained unconvincing It was not until much later in the mid-twentieth century when it was realised and then confirmed that it was not a transcription of an alphabet as Landa and others had originally supposed but was rather a syllabary Confirmation of this was only to be established by the work of Russian linguist Yuri Knorozov in the 1950s and the succeeding generation of Mayanists

752009 - Yes she can drink out of her big girl cup but you have to be there with her or she will tend to play or have a puddle on the table or on her new clothes They didn't cost that much but when a little adds up to a lot you try to keep what you have nice so she can wear it and she's so cute I let her drink out of her cup and it's ok She brushes her teeth twice a day and the rubber spill-proof spout doesn't alter her teeth I send hard ones to school with breakfast drink supplement but that's just once per day This is the day after the 4th and she's got a few pics (background stinks) in one of her cute outfits I figure they can always be edited somehow if you like one Can't go out for too long because of the weather and I have to get everything ready to start working from the house with Sarah She will go to school and at that time I will be able to do a lot more hopefully between appointments and a few days that I can bring her places because I've given up on James going anywhere with us He just doesn't go anywhere except if it suits him or if it's with one of his buddies His daughter is well cared for and will always be She is precious and will be coming up on her surgery date in two days I guess that I'll be alone with that too since I really don't have anyone to count on and have come to the conclusion that things will be alright I have a lot to do and will be just fine Sarah had her milk to get something in her stomach because I had to wash dishes clean the kitchen and try to find something to eat for us We had hot dogs again for lunch and just stretched it out We'll make it somehow I know that I will be able to get myself back the way I was before - a lady with the ability to use her skills gifts and talents and use them as an attribute to my child myself and the deserving LLO'C

732009 - Sarah is inspecting her first big-girl bicycle with training wheels I wish I'd have had a video of me trying to put it together I surely didn't do the brakes and let James handle that and I got all of the hard parts but got confused between the right and left pedals and had to let him put those on I also wished I would have had a picture or video of the first time that he put her on the bike She had a grin from ear to ear and was in sheer delight She was so happy that she had a little dimple showing on the right hand side of her face She is the most precious and darling little girl and we will succeed Things will work out all of the way around I would love to show her a great 4th of July from 4-9:30 pm in the Park listening to music eating drinking riding rides and seeing the most spectacular fireworks display We haven't been anywhere like that as a family or a couple since we moved here in March of 2001 I hear the fireworks display here in Texas makes the one in Baton Rouge by the levee near the Huey P Long Bridge look shabby We saw one at the Steppenwolf concert on the beach laying on the hood of the car one fourth but this one's supposed to put all of them to shame and we need to get out before surgery
