This was a typical scene this was the daughter (32 years old) her bedroom which also doubled as the computer room and the family room It is just really crazy to see how different the way they live is It is so much simpler and much more based upon togetherness and family oriented Definitely cool although it would be really insane to live with your parents until you're 32 I am definitely not saying I would want that but just the way they used their space and really made the most out of the space they had available to them And honestly sometimes they might feel like they want to have more room but this is all they really needed it works Kind of like when I think about the place we will live someday or the places I guess wherever God wants us we will be But really-I hope that we can have what we NEED and that that will be enough that will be good enough I hope God helps us to see really what that is

732009 - James said he was going to get some steaks and came home empty-handed saying that they were 2000 some-odd dollars and that he would have gotten tv dinners or pot pies but he just decided to wait This is what we have His business partner (my son) left and our finances have been a bit re-structured and he's not had the business that we had before This is the end result I spent my child's money on things that she needed and didn't have any available cash-flow at hand to purchase groceries (God knows I tried to keep us afloat) but all I could do was to get us work clothing and get Sarah's school uniforms and a few things for the home office and that her doctor had prescribed about a year ago that I couldn't afford Yes I will have bills to pay but I've always paid the bills that I have and I haven't taken on more than can be dealt with This situation is being blamed on me now since there's no one else here to blame it on He went out and was gone until 6:31 am this morning with his friend who is supposedly under-going heart by-pass surgery and is pretty down We have computers that are for sale I was told that if I tested and cleaned 5 machines he'd pay me 5000 and he never did and as badly as we needed the money (today is the Fourth of July and I would have liked to have brought Sarah our little girl that he never brings ANYWHERE to see the fireworks in Elenor Tinsley Park before her eye surgery four days later for a lazy eye - they're free and we cashed in her Piggy Bank money just to have enough for a little food or drinks or the rides if she liked to have a good time and there will be free music I even had her summer theme clothes all ready to go and camera ready James is sleeping and had a good time with his buddy last night I woke up looking like a corpse and this is the end result of what I have to live with My wonderful life How many years have I had to live like this Only God knows because this sure 'ain't a Tootsie Pop commercial LLO'C

this is phee she's an installment in the story i'm working on hope to release details on it soon but dunno how ready i am to share them xD n nphee lives in a town called Aoueden which is my bastardization of the scottish gaelic name Aodhan which means fiery which makes sense i guess since basically everyone who comes from her town has a temper especially her childhood best friend and neighbor fenthwick who's the main character of the story Phee is a huldu In my story the huldu are mythical folk that live in the woods Legend says that they came into existence when God came to visit the house of a woman She was washing her children but didnt have enough time to wash all of them so she washed half her children and hid away the dirty ones When God arrived he declared that as she had hid half of her children from him so shall they be hidden from mankind as well Thus the Huldu meaning hidden were born They have markings on their faces that resemble dirt and tear duct residue Females have one horn and males have two Some huldu display animal characteristics such as a tail and ears When they entwine their fingers and cross their legs they turn into trees to hide from humans A while ago they became known to man but only a few live alongside humans the rest supposedly died in a forest fire (plot fire)

So just digging up some examples herewith my back-up cam taking the type of candid portrait shots folks typically enjoy of their kidwhich is a typical example of a shot where the G is at its limit and just barely able to keep up with the light requirements In all these shots I had the aperture cranked open as much as it could go for the given zoomnnYou have an example of a good shot here nnnShot in the shade--not an extremely low-light situation but enough to make it a challenge to get the shot you want I wanted to keep the low ISO 80 quality to avoid noise in the shot softening the texture I wanted to avoid flash to keep the lighting natural I wanted to frame the shot close so you're really studying his expressionnnTo pull this shot off with the G I was forced to a shutterspeed no faster than 110th of a second That's slow This is a pretty calm pensive shot so I was able to catch it exactly well I was lucky Actually I wasn't lucky I was god damn persistent I blew away like 10 useless shots to get this one 110th of a secondthis wouldn't have been possible before image stabilizationnnSuccess Yay It only took 10 tries

In this fifth and final dream I saw the Ancients in the heavens dancing around the earth in a ceremonial way The flute player was playing his flute Spider Woman was also in this scene I have drawn a dreamcatcher to represent her since I cannot yet draw well enough to show her as I saw her She appeared to be destroying her web which had the earth entangled within it I asked what she was doing and was told A Great Shaking was in progress upon the earth and would continue for a while and that Spider Woman was Not destroying her web she was unraveling it to shake it out to cleanse it and when she was done she would reweave it I asked who the others were and what were they doing They are Dream Walkers was the reply He told me more but I no longer recall it I recognize the Flute player as Kokopeli which I believe is Hopi or Navajo(or both) My knowledge is a bit rusty but these appear to be Kachinas They all have some significance though I am not sure the three I've seen and illustrated here are even a part of the many Kachinas I only recognize Kokopeli The others I do not recognize other than from seeing them many times in dreamtime So I'm assuming they are real Kachinas The main message in these recurring dreams which are connected to other dreams is basically the same: Something is coming and it is global and we must prepare ourselves Whatever it is will be difficult for us all we must look within and seek the knowledge of God's will for our lives and once known to ask humbly for the power to carry it out For any reading this I want to say my use of the name God is based on my own personal belief and my hope is that you will not disregard the message because of what I believe I do understand that your idea of God may be vastly different from mine My hope is that you will seek whatever you need in whatever manner you are accustomed to prepare yourself for what is coming In other words find your center We are all in this togethernCANDLESWHEELSnmc

I am naturally or nurturely (artistic license) introspective so believe it or not I spent days on this one blog post trying to find a way to sum myself up while trying not to sound like a guy with his eyebrow raised A heavy sense of ending came to mind Am I to describe myself as if Im done or pick apart the road I took to get here Should I measure my accomplishments dreams and failures or parade my family and network as proof of my worth My first instinct was to answer this whole post with the simple sentence I am Although it is true and honest on so many levels I cant help but feel that particular wordage is a little too vague and assuming I would also be lying if I where to pretend that the difference between who I am and what I do isnt important to me n nMy solution to my description problem was found by seeking the two people who I believe understand me the most First my friend who is also named Chris and has known me for the better part of 15 years contributed this he called me the most sincere person he has ever met Im quite proud of that description because I live my life to speak from the deepest truth I believe The second person is my wife of 10 years who has seen me in more moods situations and perspectives than anyone save God and my mom She was nice enough to make an About me when I was advertising my music on a myspace page I hope to post it on my official blog opening day but if not this will have to do until she can relocate it

Najars childhood In my family there was no such thing as an artistnor painter The closest thing to a painting we had at home was a tapestrynThough his public school teachers were impressed by his artistic skill hisnfellow classmates mocked him The young David understood that it wasnbest to give up painting and join the boys on the soccer field Sportsnbecame the center of his life When he was older David started workingnout at a center for Krav Maga (an Israeli hand-to-hand combat method) innNetanya The center was opened by Imi Sde-Or the legendary Israeli figurenwho developed the defense method When Najar met Imi a special bondnimmediately formed between the two despite the 50-year age differencenbetween them Krav Maga is based on various techniques in judo karatenju-jitsu boxing and other martial arts The method was adopted andndeveloped by the Israeli Defense Forces and later by special combat forcesnaround the world Imi started developing the method back in Europe as anway to fight the Nazi gangs that attacked him and his friends during hisnyouth in Slovenia When he immigrated to Israel he was invited by YitzhaknSadeh (an Israeli military leader and one of the founders of the IDF) tonteach the method to the Hagana defense forces Now working with thenarmy Imi continued to develop the method until he retired to open a KravnMaga center in Netanya After training intensively Najar became a coachnand soon one of the leading figures in the field I used to meet Imi at hisncaf in Netanya Najar relates He had a special table there where hednreceive his guests People from all over the world came to meet him henknew everyone who trained in his method We would talk about everythingnabout Krav Maga life God and girls Imi always told me that Id getninvolved andntheres a chill in the air Najar smiles shyly Even with his success and salesnin the United States he still has a hard time believing that hes managingnto make a living from painting For years I did Krav Maga and made a livingnfrom it My friends were accountants and engineers and suddenlynI became a painter People were shocked My friends and family said it wasnnonsense a passing phase But it didnt passnIt all started with a visit to the museum I saw a painting by Renoir and Insaid to myself I have to learn how to do that He signed up for a paintingncourse in Ramat Aviv Most of the other students were retirees and Najarnwith his wide and muscular shoulders was without a doubt an attraction innthe class I bought paints and started ruining canvases Najar saysnBy day I taught Krav Maga and by night I painted In the beginning Inwould paint all night in our tiny spare room but when we had a baby henstarted taking over the room I moved to the living room My wife said I wasnmessing up the house and that the piant smell was unbearable But Incouldnt stop I would get up in the middle of the night to paintnNajar wanted to paint all day and make a living from his art but all thenartists he knew seemed to be struggling financially That wasnt what Inwanted David says I wanted to live a normal life One day his teacherninvited him to participate in an exhibition I got really positive feedbacknand lots of complements but someone also came up and askednto buy a painting I name a price that at the time seemed astronomical tonme and he agreed And the rest is history David sells his paintingsnmostly in the United States He doesnt need to wake up in the middle ofnthe night to paint in the living room anymore He has a studio in south TelnAviv where he paints The decision to rent a studio and bena full time painter wasnt easy There were a lot of things he was unsurenabout I understood that to make it you cant just be a weekend painternand I had a lot of concerns Najar says Luckily he met a painter thatnhelped him I trained him at the gym and he trained me at paintingnAfter Id finish a painting I couldnt help myself Id run to show it tonhim I wanted to hear what he thought how I could improve He alwaysnhad the patience to talk to me and he always supported me Wed work outnwith the painting in the background Hed critique my painting and Idncritique his moves Najar smiles and offers me another coffee Itsnpouring outside now but his studio is full of canvases with springnblossoms Theyre waiting to be sent to the US I love nature he saysnglancing over his paintings I like to paint nature I travel a lot to seenflowers blooming to the sea I have to be in contact with nature But thentruth is you dont have to go far We can be in contact with nature all thentime Its enough to just look out the window Theres nothing ugly innnature The only ugliness is in places that have been touched by mansnhand People seek harmony Nature has amazing colors and Color Purple and Oranges are Not the Only Fruit women are portrayed in both similar and different ways The first major similarities shared by the books are the lead characters- both Celie and Jeanette are young girls living with their adoptive guardians and both girls are involved in lesbian relationships at some point in the story These similarities in the heroines of the stories provide the basis for my investigation as they are a catalyst for all the major examples of women and power throughout both novelsnIn The Color Purple women are treated as slaves and sexual objects This view is reflected well in Celies relationship with Mr- he marries her so she has to look after his children and frequently rapes her nnnnnnnnThe almost complete opposite of this is Sofia and Harpos relationship where Sofia is dominant and commands Harpos every movementnnIn Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit there are no particularly extreme signs of sexual or sexist domination by either gender There are however instances where one character of the novel (or a group of characters) are shown to discriminate against other characters nnIn both The Color Purple and Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit the most important characters are female Many of the major decisions which make up the stories are made by women In both novels the lead characters are greatly affected by the teachings and views of other women in the books In The Color Purple the women who influence Celie and her decisions are Shug Avery Nettie and Sofia nBeing portrayed at the start of the novel as her protector Nettie is the first person to show Celie ways in which she can become independent Although these first lessons seem to be just childish fun at the start of the novel they provide a basis for Walker to expand upon with other characters When Nettie fights off Mrs sexual advances she shows that women are not just objects for men to use at their own will nAfter Nettie is thrown out of Mrs house (letter 11) we dont hear much about her until later in the novel (letter 51) Now she is not Celies protector but is instead showing her power and independence by trying to save the Olinka village in Africa nSoon after Nettie makes a disappearance from the novel Walker introduces us to an even more influential character- Shug Avery When Shug first arrives at Mrs home she is sick with nasty woman disease this possibly being Walkers euphemism for a sexually transmitted infection If this was the case Shugs first appearance in the story would be also the first time she is shown to have traditionally masculine qualities- by being promiscuous Much unlike the majority of the women in The Color Purple Shug is not oppressed by men she doesnt allow herself to be dominated by anyone Her strong personality is a major part of her overall effect in the book her looks and career being mainly symbols of her power over the opposite sexnThroughout the novel Shug has different roles many of which are because of the parts she plays towards Celie At various points in the book Shug plays the part of Celies mother sister friend lover and teachernnnnnnnnThe lessons Shug teaches Celie are factors in the climax of the novel Without the influence of Shug Celie would still be the downtrodden passive character she is in the first few letters By learning to her own sexuality and voice Celie manages to recover her identity and eventually even believe in a different religious viewnLike Shug Sofia is a character who refuses to be dominated by anyone whether they are white men or anyone elsenAfter confronting Celie over her advice to Harpo (on beating Sofia in order to gain power within the household) Celie admits that she only told him to do such things because she was jealous of Sofias presence and the way she stands up for herself This is important in Celies life as it is the first time she realises that anyone can gain respect or power by being persistent enough to endure the hardships that life brings but also to take a stand and show that they have their own voice and identitynCelie herself is at the end of the novel a heroic figure to both the reader and to the other characters After suffering for so long at the hands of Pa and later Mr Celie finally stands up for herself and secures herself a future by making her voice be heard This act is the climax of the novel and after such a build-up the reader feels a sense of victory both for Celie and for themselves Being a feminist Walkers novel is obviously in the favour of the female gender but the victory over oppression is universal and can be applied to any person who has suffered from either gender nWalker manages to show that women can triumph over men if they band together creating her own feminist movement within the novel although she does so in a way which emphasises the importance of relationships and sisterhood rather than the stereotypical anti-men views of some womennnnnnnnnnnIn Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit the characters who make the majority of the decisions which affect either the story or Jeanette are her mother and Elsie Norris nJeanettes mother is described at the start of the novel as old testament through and through by the narrator In the old testament God was easily angered and mean-spirited This summary of Jeanettes mothers character is one which fits perfectly as her love of Jeanette fluctuates in correlation with Jeanettes fulfilment of her mothers wishesnBy being one of the most religious characters Jeanettes mother is also one of the most hypocritical Her actions towards her daughter are harsh and unloving unlike the kind and generous actions expected from a true believer in Jesus teachings nnnnnnnHer ability to control Jeanettes actions as a child becomes less and less throughout the novel until the end where Jeanette effectively disowns her The decrease in the power she has over Jeanette is huge but when Jeanette returns home for Christmas her mother acts like nothing has changed By this point in the novel she is no longer the dominating woman we saw at the start she is a more softened and accepting woman who simply reaches for her CB radio whenever she feels distressed Her comfort comes in the form of the World Service her intended use for JeanettenLike Jeanettes mother Elsie is also a devout member of the church and testifies daily Unlike Jeanettes mother however Elsie is outgoing and has a history of travel behind her She represents the imaginative individual who Jeanette will eventually turn intonWhen Jeanettes own mother is being neglectful Elsie is the woman she turns to for comfort and guidance Jeanette learns many things that help her to become the character she is from Elsie that the only way to become the person she wants to be is by opening her mind to new ideasnElsie suggests that when Jeanette quits the church she may be better off finding her own way in the world rather than pursuing a religion that she doesnt agree withnUnlike Jeanettes mother Elsies power over Jeanette is not dominating or oppressing because Jeanettes lesbianism and rejection of the church are accepted by Elsie when everyone else shuns her The true power that Elsie has is the power to help people and that is what she does for Jeanette throughout nWhen Elsie dies late in the novel Jeanette is deeply saddened at the loss Elsie is her only true friend and even manages to replace her mothernJeanette towards the end of the novel is like Celie in the way that she riumphs over hardships but these are nowhere near as severe as in The Color Purple Where Celie is oppressed by men Jeanette is shunned by the church and her mother As a way of coping with her troubles Jeanette writes stories in the same way that Celie uses her letter writing as a coping mechanismnnBeing an active feminist Winterson has written many pieces about the roles of women in society and their apparent lack of power Winterson highlights this in a piece from The Guardian about Doris Lessing a feminist icon and novelist The main feel of the piece is not about Ms Lessing however it is more about the way women are still struggling for power with their male counterparts- relating more to The Color Purple than Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit :nnnnnnnnnnnnnTo conclude I feel that in terms of the portrayal of women and power Alice Walker is the most effective writer of the two Her story not only describes male dominance and the ways in which women can overcome such hardships but also how women can still be civil and forgiving after years of oppression This I feel is a feature that can be felt by every reader as a show of true power and strength whatever their race sexuality gender or even religious preference nIn Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit the general tone is much lighter than in The Color Purple and to keep the story light-hearted there are much fewer troubles to be overcome resulting in a climax which seems much less significant (in terms of women and power) than Walkers novel nOn balance Celies struggle through rape and oppression is more effectively shown than Jeanettes sexuality being frowned upon by her mother and the church Whilst homophobia is a problem that more and more people are affected by every day I feel that sexual dominance and the way women are treated is a problem that has been going on for hundreds
