Middle of the third millenium BC Tello ancient Girsu These small pieces of engraved shell or motherofpearl composed panels for mosaics which decorated highly valued casketsboxes or the sound boxes of musical instruments They were attached on a darkcolored background made of bars of oil shale bitumen or lapis lazuli Note the motifs that were common to this culture many deergazelles a bullheaded man pseudoEnkidu Imdugud the lionheaded eagle the depictions of lions including a lion devouring a bull and what looks to be a winged lioness and the lion head and men including what looks like a priest Also depicted are what appear to be two sets of eyes
