72 x15x15 300 pounds 1100 My current work contains elements of both the natural world and that which is synthetic or manufactured Especially in my work Imbroglio is a combination of particular materials that allows my representation of progression regression and the natural order- all reacting together This in turn becomes a metaphor of our current evolutionary status quo The combination of steel and cement are a super power- one of the most symbiotic industrial relationships there is This combination coupled with encapsulated soil (another essential life-force) creates for me a meaningful interaction and remembrance of balancing progression and sustainability

Steel Aluminum 12' x 7' x 8' 8000 Bouquetrsquos main purpose is to brighten the winter days from October through April when the normal flowers and greenery have gone into their dreary winter state During the rest of the year the sculpture augments the natural flora in the environment and due to its height draws attention to the immediate area and all its beauty Bouquet is constructed of painted steel with flowers that are painted pressed sheet aluminum and has a center ldquoshowerrdquo made of stainless steel cable The leaves on the main stems also are made of steel and link to the central stem as the means to stabilize all the upright pieces from wind The upright stems mount on and are bolted to internal struts that are welded to the steel base My process involves first making a model of wood in order to get the positions angels and relationships ldquorightrdquo and converting that to a metal maquette that is as close to the conceptual full scale sculpture both in materials and colors In this case the maquette is constructed of brass (as a replica of the steel uprights) aluminum flowers and stainless steel cables

Stainless and mild steel 6' x 5' x 4' 200 pounds 4350The sculpture will be bolted to the concrete via three 38 inch anchor bolts It is easily transported in the bed of a pickup truck and can be lifted and installed by 2 or 3 peopleThe concept of this piece was inspired by human relationships I witnessed friends family and myself experience in day to day life what this sculpture represents The bottom piece is where I started This shape was inspired by a family crest shield I like the concepts and ideas associated with the family crest and how it is a symbol for generations of people Next I noticed how many people like to put on a mask when they are around certain people They create this false identity of who they really are I started looking at African masks because they portray a distorted face with simple shapes I added the top curved piece to mimic a forehead and to complete the image of the African mask when viewed from the one side I used stainless and blued mild steel because I wanted a stark contrast in color to represent the different sides of people (good and bad) Bright stainless represents the good the dark mild steel represents bad The size of the piece is about human scale because it is meant to be welcoming and wanting the viewer to be embraced (from the stainless side) The top piece is curved in a way that the end points resemble arms reaching for an embrace The spike represents the knife in the back or back stabbing people do to one another Last I left an opening on the top side of the shield piece to represent the void certain people or circumstances leave on each other In short this sculpture represents both the good and the bad ideas and situations associated with human relationships
