Poseidon was the ruler of the sea a powerful god in Greek mythology who was often called the Earth-shaker His father was the Titan Cronus who at the time was ruler of the Universe and his mother was Rhea Cronus was a paranoid ruler because it had been prophesized that one of his own sons would dethrone him just as Cronus had done to his father UranusThus Cronus would swallow the children whom Rhea bore him He figured that it was the safest way to ensure that none of his offspring overthrew himOne by one the children were swallowed by Cronus: first Hestia then Demeter Hera Hades and Poseidon (Some mythographers claim that Rhea tricked Cronus by presenting a foal instead of the baby Poseidon for consumption but most agree that Poseidon had been swallowed like the rest of his siblings)Needless to say this constant swallowing of her children enraged Rhea She bore her third son Zeus in the middle of the night and gave him for safekeeping to Gaea (Mother Earth) She fooled Cronus into believing he had swallowed his new son by substituting a rock wrapped in baby blanketsWhen Zeus grew up and with the help of Gaea and his mother Rhea he slipped Cronus a potion that made the Titan disgorge the swallowed children Being gods they were unharmed albeit a tad dazed and confused With Zeus serving as their leader Poseidon Hades Hestia Demeter and Hera waged war against the Titans for supremacy of the UniverseAssisted by the Cyclops (they gave Zeus his thunderbolts Poseidon his trident and Hades his helmet of invisibility) and the Hecatoncheires (the Hundred-handed-ones) the siblings fought a terrible war that lasted ten years In the end they were victorious banishing their vanquished foes to the deepest depths of the Underworld called Tartarus This dark and woeful place is as far beneath the earth as heaven is above the earth Around Tartarus runs a fence of bronze with gates of bronze which Poseidon fixed in such as way as to offer no escape and there the Titans were forever confinedAfter Zeus with his brothers and sisters defeated the Titans anddethroned Cronus the three brothers drew lots out of a helmet todetermine which one of the three realms each would rule Zeus won the heavens and thus became the supreme ruler Hades got the Underworld and Poseidon got the sea The Earth remained common to all threePoseidon was very powerful second only to Zeus himself Equal to Zeus in dignity though not in power he was reputed to be a surly and quarrelsome figurePoseidon at once got busy constructing a magnificent palace beneath the sea off Aegae in Euboea Splendid white chariot horses with brazen hooves and golden manes lived in the palace's spacious stables and an awesome golden chariot was always ready to transport the sea god about At the approach of Poseidon's chariot storms and foul weather would cease and sea monsters would rise from the depths playfully frisking around it like friendly dolphinsAs wonderful as his underwater palace was Poseidon still spent much of his time participating in the festivities in Olympus with the other godsPoseidons wife was Amphitrite granddaughter of the titan Oceanus At first Poseidon courted Thetis the Nereid because she was beautiful and was already accustomed to the sea-depths But when the respected Titan Themis prophesized that any son born to Thetis would be greater than his father wisely he backed off and looked elsewhere for a wifeNext he approached Amphitrite another Nereid who wanted nothing to do with Poseidon For whatever reason she was turned-off by the god of the sea and fled to the Atlas Mountains in order to escape his advancesNot to be denied Poseidon sent messengers all over the earth to look for her Eventually after much wandering a man named Delphinus located Amphitrite and was so convincing in pleading Poseidon's case and his love for her that at last she yielded and agreed to the marriage Delphinus himself organized the entire wedding and a splendid party it wasThe union of Poseidon and Amphitrite produced three children: Triton Rhode and Benthesicyme But like his brother Zeus Poseidon wasn't a very faithful husband and engaged in numerous affairs with goddesses nymphs and even mortalsUnderstandably jealous Amphitrite punished many of her husband's lovers just like Hera did to her husband Zeus' women She was particularly upset with Poseidon's infatuation with Scylla gorgeous daughter of Phorcys and was determined to punish her indiscretion Amphitrite threw magical herbs into Scylla's bathing pool and when the woman took her bath at once she transformed into a barking monster with six heads and twelve feetPoseidon was never fully satisfied with his share of the world and once even conspired with other Olympians to dethrone Zeus But his plot was discovered and in punishment Zeus exiled him to earth There he was to build the walls of Troy for king Laomedon He was helped by Apollo who was also banished from Olympus at that timeThe two Olympian gods assumed the likeness of men and undertook to fortify Troy for wages Apollo was able to move the heaviest of stones with just the sound of his lyre But when they had fortified it and the task was completed the foolish king Laomedon would not pay their wages Therefore Apollo sent a pestilence and Poseidon sent a Sea-monster which snatched away the people of the plainThe oracles foretold deliverance from these calamities if Laomedon would expose the maiden Hesione to be devoured by Poseidon's Sea-monster Not knowing what else to do the king followed the oracles' advice and fastened her to the rocks near the sea but at the last moment the greatest Greek hero Heracles (Hercules) saved her and she married TelamonGetting stiffed for his wages was also the chief reason why Poseidon was on the Greek side during the Trojan WarMany more Sea-monsters were unleashed by Poseidon to exactvengeance: Poseidon sent a Sea-monster against the Teucriansbecause Hierax a righteous man was devoted to Demeter and would not honor Poseidon When Queen Cassiopeia boasted of being better than the Nereids the water nymphs became angry and asked Poseidon to intervene The wrathful god sent a flood and yet another Sea-monster to invade the land Andromeda was exposed as a prey to this monster only to be rescued by the hero Perseus Poseidon also sent a bull from the sea and the horses of Hippolytus were startled entangling their master in the reins dragging him to a horrible deathAnother time Poseidon competed with the great Athena - goddess of wisdom war and the crafts - over who would gain patronage of the famous city state called Athens Poseidon struck the side of the Acropolis and a fountain spurted forth its water much to the amazement of the people However the water was salty which proved no use to the populace Athena presented the people with the first olive tree which was used for food oil and provided wood to burn in the winter The gods and goddesses had assembled to pass judgment with the males voting for the god of the sea and the females choosing Athena's olive tree Since the women outnumbered the men by one Athena's gift was judged to be the most useful and Athena was awarded the city which forever after carried her name - Athens Known for his anger and not being the best of sports Poseidonproceeded to sent huge waves to flood the area in a mean-spiritedparting gesture To appease Poseidon's wrath the women of Athens were deprived of their vote and the men forbidden to bear their mothers names In the shrine of Erechtheus there remained preserved a long time an olive tree and a pool of salt water which had been set there by Poseidon and Athena as tokens when they contended for the city Another dispute arose between Poseidon and Athena over the city of Troezen but Zeus nipped it in the bud by declaring that it was to be shared equally between the two an arrangement loathed by both parties Quarrelsome Poseidon thus engaged in disputes with: Zeus over the island of Aegina Dionysus over the island of Naxos Helios the sun god over the area of Corinth (Poseidon was upset because he received the Isthmus of Corinth only while Helios got the prestigious Acropolis of Corinth) Hera wife of Zeus got into it with Poseidon over Argolis and that one got real ugly with accusations flying all over the place and Poseidon claiming that the Olympians were biased against him Poseidon's argument with Hera was referred for arbitration to a panel of three River-gods who made a decision in favor of Hera Outraged Poseidon vowed revenge on them Zeus had forbidden him to bring on floods as he had done in Athens so the sea god did the exact opposite -- He dried up the streams of his three judges (Inachus Cephissus and Asterion) and they never again flowed in the summer But Poseidon could be compassionate Anymone was a Danaid (nymph of nature) who was greatly distressed by these droughts and taking pity on her Poseidon caused the Argive river of Lerna to perpetually flow bringing Anymone much-needed relief Poseidon liked to boast that he created the first horse and it wasaccepted that he instituted horse-racing He even claimed to haveconstructed the first horse bridle although Athena begs to differ on thatthe two rarely got along at first even though eventually they reconciled and worked on some common causes Like Zeus it took many years for Poseidon to mature and not always act belligerently Although Poseidon is adored for giving men the first horse his primary importance was as Lord of the Sea At his command winds rose and the most violent of storms began but when he drove in his golden chariot over the water the storms subsided and tranquil peace followed his wheels Ancient sailors and warriors would pray and offer tributes to the great Poseidon prior to undertaking a sea journey In turn Poseidon could be cruel and hostile to those who displeased him such as the hero of the Trojan War Odysseus who suffered great tribulations at the hands of Poseidon while embarked on his Odyssey back home Both the bull and the horse are associated with Poseidon but the bull is associated with many other gods as well so the horse can be considered his animalHe was always depicted carrying or using his distinguishing weapon the trident a three-pronged spear which he used to shatter and shake anything he pleased much like his brother Zeus used his thunderbolts That's why he was commonly referred to as the Earth Shaker The trident his symbol was the gift of the Cyclopes who had fought with the Olympians versus the TitansHe was always accompanied by his son Triton who was half man half fish Triton would blow on his seashell to announce Poseidon's arrival

Ares is the great Olympian God of War Battlelust Civil Order and Manly Courage Ares who became the Greek god of war had a miserable childhood The only son of the mighty Zeus ruler of the Olympians and his wife Hera Ares was disliked by his father from the moment he was born and was barely tolerated from then on Perhaps Zeus just couldn't warm up to the little guy because he hadn't had a part in Ares' conception or his birth Hera with the help of a magical herb had managed to get herself pregnant with the help of Zeus or any man a process called parthenogenesis (Note: Most myths name Ares as the son who was born as a result of this immaculate conception but in some versions the son was Hephaestus)Hera had done this to even the score with her husband for having given birth to Dionysus by himself A short version of that story: Semele one of Zeus' many lovers lay dying while pregnant with Zeus' son Dionysus With the help of Hermes Zeus removed the unborn child and implanted him under the skin of his thigh where he remained until he was ready to be born For whatever reason Zeus failed to bond with his infant son Ares Zeus was not even particularly concerned when the young boy went missing a few years later and didn't expend much effort looking for the poor lad As it turns out the young Ares had been abducted by two playmates the giant Aloadai twins who had caught him and locked him in a bronze jar Ares stayed captive in the bronze jar almost losing his mind in captivity until the stepmother of the unruly twins figured out what had happened and told Zeus' assistant Hermes who was able to release Ares from the jarAfter this incident Hera decided that Ares' might be better off living somewhere else and arranged for him to live with Priapus one of the minor deities Priapus trained the young Ares in the art of dancing and later in the martial artsEven though he was well-trained and served as the god of war Ares wasn't a great fighter and lost many of his battles especially those involving his half-sister and arch-enemy Athena who was the goddess of wisdom as well as the goddess of war (not to mention being Daddy's favorite) Ares represented war conducted up close and personal hand to hand combat and the frenzy of battle and bloodlust Athena and Zeus superbly rational favored war at a distance strategic planning playing according to the rules of the game cold and calculating by comparison Ares style was instinctual passionate and primitivenot destined to make him appear heroic in the eyes of a culture that valued reason and moderation There were other reasons as well: The Greek god Ares the god least favored by the citizens of Greece and by his parents (Zeus and his wife Hera) was seen by the ancient Greeks as a mercenary warrior filled with a bloodlust that could not be appeased and a fickle god as well one who would fight for either side just to have a chance to vent his rage Ares' unpopularity was probably inevitable given that the Greeks of that time were mostly involved in petty wars amongst themselves wars where allegiances were unclear and shifted frequently Any god of war would have found it very difficult to please everyone in that situationIt's easy to see why Ares' other incarnation as Mars the Roman God of War fared much better -- the Roman viewpoint was no doubt influenced by the fact that Rome was usually at war with foreign powers so that a god of war could be someone that could be worshipped and viewed as heroic one always battling for a just cause (ie their side) During the Trojan War Ares fought on the side of the Trojans against the Greeks as a show of support for his lover Aphrodite who had set the war in motion This did not win him any points with the other Olympians who except for Apollo supported the Greeks He charged at Athena who was taunting him about it and she calmly reached down and picked up a rock and smashed him over the head with it stopping his advanceAthena also convinced one of the Greek warriors to wound Ares in the side during the battle and Ares bellowed so loudly in pain and rage that the earth shook He complained to Zeus about Athena's humiliating him on the battlefield and Zeus dismissively called him a whine who enjoyed nothing but brawling Ares rarely went out of his way to come to the aid of his fellow Olympians But once bored with the endless petty wars of the Greeks he decided to rescue Hades who was being held captive by King Sisyphus Ares came to his assistance threatening to decapitate Sisyphus if he didnt release him and turn himself in as Hades prisoner Trembling with fear Sisyphus surrendered to HadesAres may not have matched the Olympian ideal of rationality and moderation but he was not without his followers Unfortunately they were mostly a band of malevolent minor deities and mortals including several of his sons most of whom ended with unhappy fates Ares usually rode into battle accompanied by his two sons Phobos (Fear) and Daiemos (Panic) Although the Greek god Ares was heavily criticized for reacting emotionally rather than rationally and for not always following the rules he was quick to jump to the defense of those with whom he felt a kinship including his large brood of offspring Unfortunately his feelings often propelled him into battles that he could not winWhen one of his sons was killed during the Trojan War Ares leapt onto the battlefield defying Zeus' orders that the gods and goddesses not take part in the battleAnd Ares felt strongly about his daughters as well When his daughter Alcippe was raped by one of Poseidon's sons Ares promptly killed him This lead to the first murder trial in recorded history The trial was held on a hill in Athens that was subsequently named the Aeropagus (Ares' Hill) Ares was acquitted of the crimeSometimes Ares' loyalties led him astray One of his sons Cycnus was a thief who fell upon travelers murdering them for their bones which he was using to construct a gruesome temple to his father Cycnus picked the wrong victim when he tried to assault Heracles (Hercules) As they fought Areas rushed to fight on his son's side but they were no march for Heracles who killed Cycnus and wounded AresLittle is written about Ares in his aspect as Lord of the Dance but much can be inferred Just as in many tribal cultures warriors drum and dance before doing battle the passion and intensity of the ecstatic dance the sheer physicality of it is closely associated with the masculine energy the forceful and aggressive impulse that can bring courage in its wake And no one every doubted that Ares had courageBut what of his loves Ares never married although he had over twenty lovers who bore him children And apparently his love affairs weren't overnighters but were long lasting relationships because many of them bore him several children Being deceptive or even indirect could not be listed among his shortcomings Unlike the other Greek gods Ares did not rely on trickery abduction or rape to establish his love affairs Ares is best known for his long-term love affair with the goddess Aphrodite the goddess of romance and beauty His lengthy love affair with Aphrodite led to the birth of four children--their daughter Harmonia (Harmony) later became the mother of the Amazons a tribe of fearsome warrior women The tabloids were probably invented for the sole purpose of keeping up with the latest gossip about what the couple were up to Be sure to read the story of Hephaestus for an account of how Aphrodite's husband managed to catch them in the act and haul them into court for the Trial of the Century which ended in their acquittal of course So important was Aphrodite to Ares that when she fell in love with the beautiful Adonis (who was some say effeminate Ares' polar opposite) Ares' was overcome with such jealousy that he turned himself into a wild boar (in some accounts it was a bear) and killed his rival -- the only time he was known to battle disguised in another form The union of Ares and Aphrodite the original macho-man and the ultra-feminine sex kitten seemed unlikely to survive for long but it certainly did Ares contributed the passionate intensity and Aphrodite taught him to accept and enjoy the vulnerable unprotected parts of himself the loving and tender feelings he otherwise would never have displayed

Junior Troop 446 hosted a Field Day about the BP Oil Spill - One Year Later More than 80 Daisy Brownie and Junior Girl Scouts attended and cycled through seven stations: n n A dress-up game about what the people who work in the industry or clean up oil spills wear n A Survivor quiz and puzzle challenge about what products have oil in them n An activity where the girls made up a play about the lief cycle of an oil drop n An experiment to try different ways to clean up a mini oil spill with different materials n Another experiment to try to clean up a mini oil spill on a little beach n A session talking about and identifying countries with the most oil reserves who produce the most oil who use the most oil and where some of the biggest oil spills happened n Snack - Eating an oil spill (chocolate puddling to represent the dirty water crumbled Oreos representing the tar balls gummy fish stuck in the oil and pretzel sticks to represent the booms) n nThe troop also set up a display up with pamphletsreports on the BP Oil Spill and showed video clips about what different organizations did or are continuing to do during the responserecovery effort n nThis event was a key part of the Bronze Award program which also included creating a website to inform the community about the spill and an informational handout which the troop distributed to more the 700 students at our elementary school Photographer: Carrie L McNamara

Much beloved and celebrated the god Pan is widely regarded as a carefree god of nature He is a god of shepherds and flocks and of mountain wilds hunting and rustic music Indeed the piped musical instrument with which he is so scene depicted has become known simply as Pan pipes Perhaps more commonly though he is known for his love of Nymphs and women and was frequently spoken of as chasing them as they frequently fled his advances Fields groves and wooded glens are all considered his places and because of this he is frequently revered as a god of fertility and the season of spring Interestingly he is frequently depicted as a Satyr a man with goat legs and feet and the upper body of a man He also possesses the horns and ears of a goat and is frequently depicted as bearded with wavy or curly hair in a fashion common to the ancient Greeks Because of this many people regard him as the origin of the Horned God and many other such figures of faith including some Christian imagery In this delightful statue he is shown in traditional form with the lower body of a goat and the upper body of a man struggling at his play with two nude nymphs both of whom are portrayed within the traditional Greek images of feminine beauty Tugging at his arms and the Nymphs seem to laugh and play as Pan digs in his hoofed feet struggling to keep from going where they tug with a wild expression of dismay upon his face Indeed it seems one of Pan's tricks has turned back upon him here creating another legend of the playful antics of the lively Greek god The whole merry scene has been immortalized in cold cast resin and hand painted so as to appear to be crafted of bronze Heavy-weight and classically styled it measures 7 tall by 7 at its widest point This is the perfect piece for your altar desk bookshelf or where ever else in your home you might want to celebrate this beloved nature God

Outside of the Gate of Terrestrial Tranquility is Yuhuayuan the Imperial Garden Constructed during the Ming dynasty in 1417 it is rectangular in shape and covers approximately 12000 square meters This was a private retreat for the imperial family and is the most typical of the Chinese imperial garden design There are some twenty structures each of a different style and the ways in which they harmonise with the trees rockeries flower beds and sculptural objects such as the bronze incense burners both delight and astonish visitors It is a worthy tribute to the art of the designers that so much can be achieved in so small a space

Zeus fall in love with one of his own gender Hyacinthus a Spartan prince He was very handsome and athletic which inflamed the passions of Apollo One day while Apollo and Hyacinthus were practicing throwing the discus Zephyrus the god of the west wind who was also attracted to the young prince and jealous of Apollo's amorous affection towards the boy made the discus veer off course by blowing an ill wind The discus which Apollo had thrown hit Hyacinthus smashing his skull Apollo rushed to him but he was dead The god was overcome with grief but to immortalize the love he had for the beautiful youth he had a flower grow were his blood had stained the earth Apollo also loved the young boy Cyparissus a descendant of Heracles The impassioned Apollo gave Cyparissus a sacred deer as a love token which by chance hit and killed the deer Grief-stricken by what had happened Cyparissus wanted to die He asked Apollo to let his tears fall for all eternity With apprehension Apollo transformed the boy into a tree the cypress which became the symbol of sorrow as the sap on its trunk forms droplets like tears n nApollo could also be ruthless when he was angered The mortal Niobe boasted to Apollo's mother Leto that she had fourteen children (in some versions six or seven) which must make her more superior than Leto who had only bore two Apollo greatly angered by this slew her sons and Artemis killed Niobe's daughters Niobe wept so much that she turned into a pillar of stone Apollo was infuriated when the satyr Marsyas challenged Apollo to music contest After winning the competition Apollo here's our front pretty simple and dull okay a few things:nn1 we want to paint our shudders door and garage door (once it's replaced) with the bath room shade of blue n2 we want to paint the wood trip white (once we replace the rotting wood) n3 should we consider putting a white fence on the small porch our neighbor has one and it looks better than this n4 remember our door hardware is bronze should we go with a bronze porch light the current one looks like a huge microphone totally outdatedn5 ALL of the bushes have been uprooted any ideas for what to put under the living room windows where the low-laying shrubbery is in the pic now that it's uprooted we've uncovered the cinder blocks and some water access thing that is black and sticks up from the ground by about 6 inches n6 THEN ENTIRE FRONT YARD is unlevel and full of weeds we mow it and the next morning it's completely covered with dandelions any thoughts too expensive to fix

Special test on a Rokon 340cc automatic Jim Hollander of the USA Rokon Manufacturer's team at the International Six Day Trial on the Isle of Man There were 6 Rokon 340 automatics entered at this ISDT and Jim was one of 2 who finished this tough endurance competition 3 Americans (Ron Bishop Jim Simmons and Dave Mungenast) and 1 Canadian (Brian Taylor)retired during the 6 days The ISDT in 1975 marked the first time a competitor was fatally injured - when Bren Moran of New York crashed on an abandoned railroad bed Late in the bike preparation for the event the Rokon factory fitted spark screens as required by the ISDT organizers (even though 2-stroke engines do not produce sparks unlike 4-stroke engines) They then used a locally obtained Castrol two-stroke oil which left heavy carbon deposits on the spark screens choking off the exhaust The Rokons suffered severe power loss as the screens were slowly plugged up After the first Rokon retired and could be closely examined the clogged screen was discovered The remaining Rokons had their screens punctured to restore power but all were running well behind schedule at that point Jim Hollander and Jim Fogle won Bronze Medals at this Six-Days The continuously variable transmissions did work extremely well in the muddy conditions especially on the hillclimbs Rokon was years ahead of the competition in some areas running hydraulic disc brakes while all others had drum brakes The USA made competition bikes were manufactured from 1970 thru 1977 The Rokon factory was closed at a bankruptcy auction in early 1978 Rumor was that the 340cc automatic motorcycle was the financial ruin of the company Rokon Inc came back a few years later and to this day in New Hampshire still makes a unique 2-wheel drive explorer type utility machine that it began with in the early 1960 era

Frank Glick an amateur photographer captured this amazing image at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minnesota He thought that the family of the veteran buried at that gravestone might like to have a copy and did some research on Sgt Maurice RuchnnRuch a veteran of World War II was a US Army marksman who served in the Aleutian Islands and earned a Bronze Star Then he went home became an engineer and got married John Tevlin of the Star Tribute spoke with Ruchs widow Vivian and best friend Jack Kiefner:nn I told Vivian that some cultures believe the eagle is a symbol not only of patriotism and dignity but a messenger between heaven and earth She nodded solemnlynn Id say the eagle had a very good eye when he landed on Maurie and he was respected she saidnn I miss him said Vivian as she picked up the photo He was a good man and a good providernn The eagle couldnt have picked a better person said Kiefner

Take first bottle on far left (Sally Hansen Hard As Nails) and put two coats Let dry nnHow to get the look by nail- ALL nails have base look as a starting point Thumb nail: take a dark brown and stripe it as shown Put rhinestones on nail with some top coat Index finger: put the base look then put some dark brown polish on a piece of paper or plate (whatever you have laying around) and dab the sponge into it Dab it until it looks matte but you can still see the base look Take the LA Colors Art Deco red glitter and put a stripe of it on the paper Take the sponge and dab it into the red This color is fairly strong so it won't take much of it You'll want to dab the excess onto paper first then onto your nail Middle finger: go mosaic Take a yellow (Sinful Colors) LA Colors Art Deco red glitter LA Colors bronze (color pictured) and LA Colors Art Deco green glitter Stripe it however you like but apply the colors you'd like first then put the black stripe with LA Colors Art Deco (black) then apply the next color Make sure to leave a strip of the base look Ring finger: Dark brown green red glitter stripes Pinky: Dark brown stripe rhinestones Top coat it all and let it dry :)

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has been in service long since America was born in 1776 a branch of men and women who strive to prevent crime and the supernatural (OMFG X-FILEZ) Wesly is one of these men who strive to work against Terrorists Gangs Mafiosas and worst of all Rogue Agents Yes he is a Hunter-Killer Agent trained in stealth and marksmanship with pistols and rifles He has no regrets abotu who he kills knowing millions upon millions will sleep safe during the night now that the creep is gone Wesly was born on an Foriegn Airforce Base in occupied Japan at the turn of the 80's his parents well aware that he was gonna be in some sort of service seeing how he was a brat both of his parents in the Armed Forces and both of them Senior Officers His parents didn't spoil him and his father taught him Velocity Momentum Acceleration and Physics Laws at a young age so that he could become a good shooter It all came in hand when he would go Deer Hunting with his father able to shoot a small fawn from hundreds of yards away even when it was moving So on his seventeenth birthday he joined the Marine Corps easily breezing past Parris Island and into his new duty as a Sniper He fit into the Kosovo Civil War in time getting a few headshots killing a score of Twenty-Seven And when Operation Iraqi Freedom came around he was dropped in Bagdad tasked with taking out Republican Guardsmen He was only given five days worth of food and a weeks worth of water but since the war dragged on longer than expected he stayed in Bagdad the full three weeks until British Soldiers came along and discovered his hiding spot So he was medivaced to a Aircraft Carrier treated for Dehydration and Malnuritment and sent back to the United States with a Bronze Star and the rank of Lieutenant by that time he had Seventy Seven kills and one at a range that would have rivalled Hathcock But when he returned to the US he got more than what he bargained for a spot in the FBI and so he took it getting in faster than anyone could think

beautiful German Cross commemorates those who served and fell during the Great War and was introduced as a way to reinforce pride in German WW1 Veteran's On auction is the Combattans grade cross with crossed Swords awarded only to the German soldier's that actually fought on the front line in combat during WW1 it is hallmarked (makers marked) on the rear 7 RV PFORZHEIM The Cross of Honor also known as the Hindenburg Cross or the Honor Cross of the World War 1914 1918 was the only military commemorative award commissioned during the reign of the Thousand Year Reich The terms of the 1919 Treaty of Versailles presented by the Allies without negotiation with Germany were first published in Berlin on May 7th 1919 The harsh terms loss of lands reparations and virtual disarmament of the military angered and humbled the German people The Cross of Honor was established by President Generalfeldmarshall Paul von Hindenburg on July 13th 1934 in order to reestablish honor and pride in the military and in the German people who contributed to the first World War effort and suffered through the post Versailles Treaty Weimar Republic administration It was commissioned by the German Reichs Chancellery and designed by Eugene Goted Three grades of the Cross of Honor were awarded for service during World War I These were the combatants grade non-combatants grade and the next-of-kin grade All three grades were common in size 38mm across the Maltese cross with raised edges wreaths and dates all of 1 mm in height All grades of the medal also had a flat reverse with either a manufacturers stamp or number The combatants and non-combatants versions of the medal were generally made of bronzed iron or of bronze The next-of-kin grade was blackened in order to recognize the loss of a family member All grades of the Cross of Honor had to applied for and approved by the Reichsminister of the Interior The application must also have been accompanied by proof supporting the grade of the award In May 1942 the award was expanded to include Allies of Austria and Germany The combatant grade was awarded to only those soldiers and sailors who saw combat in the German Imperial Military The combatants grade was a Maltese cross with a pair of swords hilts at the bottom crossing in an X between the arms of the Maltese The swords measured 41 mm from the hilt to the tip Each arm of the Maltese cross had raised edges highlighting the outline of the arm The very center of the Maltese cross contained the raised numbers 1914 and 1918 indicating the duration of World War I The year 1914 combatants versions of the Cross of Honor were awarded The non-combatant grade of the Cross of Honor was awarded to non-combatant military auxiliary staff such as administrators and medical personnel Additionally some civilians such as State officials could be eligible for this award class This grade of the Cross of Honor was very similar to the combatants grade even realizing the same ribbon configuration and colors However this grade did not have the crossed swords reserved for the combat veteran Additionally the laurel wreath of the combatants grade was replaced by a wreath of entwined oak leaves This wreath was also tied by the same ribbon representation Approximately 1200000 non-combatants version of the Cross of Honor were awarded Parents or widows of soldiers who died or were reported as missing in action were eligible for the next-of-kin grade of the Cross of Honor This grade was very similar to the non-combatants grade with the exceptions of the ribbon color orientation ROME PYRAMID OF CESTIUSnThe Pyramid of Cestius (in Italian Piramide di Caio Cestio or Piramide Cestia) is an ancient pyramid in Rome Italy near the Porta San Paolo and the Protestant Cemetery It stands in a fork between two ancient roads the Via Ostiensis and another road that ran west to the Tiber along the appoximate line of the modern Via della Marmorata Due to its incorporation into the city's fortifications it is today one of the best-preserved ancient buildings in RomenThe pyramid was built about 18 BC-12 BC as a tomb for Gaius Cestius Epulo a magistrate and member of one of the four great religious corporations at Rome the Septemviri Epulonum It is of brick-faced concrete covered with slabs of white marble standing on a travertine foundation measuring 100 Roman feet (22 m) square at the base and standing 125 Roman feet (27 m) highnIn the interior is the burial chamber a simple barrel-vaulted rectangular cavity measuring 595 metres long 410 wide and 480 high When it was (re)discovered in 1660 the chamber was found to be decorated with frescoes which were recorded by Pietro Santi Bartoli but only the scantest traces of these now remain There was no trace left of any other contents in the tomb which had been plundered in antiquity The tomb had been sealed when it was built with no exterior entrance it is not possible for visitors to access the interiornThe sharply-pointed shape of the pyramid is strongly reminiscent of the pyramids of Nubia in particular of the kingdom of Mero which had been attacked by Rome in 23 BC The similarity suggests that Cestus had possibly served in that campaign and perhaps intended the pyramid to serve as a commemoration His pyramid was not the only one in Rome a larger one of similar form but unknown origins stood between the Vatican and the Mausoleum of Hadrian but was demolished in the 16th centurynnSome writers have questioned whether the Roman pyramids were modelled on the much less steeply pointed Egyptian pyramids exemplified by the famous pyramids of Giza However the relatively shallow Giza-type pyramids were not exclusively used by the Egyptians steeper pyramids of the Nubian type were favoured by the Ptolemaic dynasty of Egypt that had been brought to an end in the Roman conquest of 30 BC The pyramid was in any case built during a period when Rome was going through a fad for all things Egyptian The Circus Maximus was adorned by Augustus with an Egyptian obelisk and pyramids were built elsewhere in the Roman Empire around this time the Falicon pyramid near Nice in France is suspected by some to have been constructed by Roman legionaries who followed an Egyptian cultnnDuring the construction of the Aurelian Walls between 271 and 275 the pyramid was incorporated into the walls to form a triangular bastion It was one of many structures in the city to be reused to form part of the new walls probably to reduce the cost and enable the structure to be built more quickly It still forms part of a well-preserved stretch of the walls a short distance from the Porta San PaolonnThe origins of the pyramid were forgotten during the Middle Ages The inhabitants of Rome came to believe that it was the tomb of Remus (Meta Remi) and that its counterpart near the Vatican was the tomb of Romulus a belief recorded by Petrarch56 Its true provenance was clarified by Pope Alexander VII's excavations in the 1660s which cleared the vegetation that had overgrown the pyramid uncovered the inscriptions on its faces tunnelled into the tomb's burial chamber and found the bases of two bronze statues which had stood alongside the pyramidnnThe pyramid was an essential sight for many who undertook the Grand Tour in the 18th and 19th centuries It was much admired by architects becoming the primary model for pyramids built in the west during this period

47 Emerson 6250-K2 Golden Jubilee 1953 In good overall condition Original paint is shiny with some scratched areas on rear bullet back Bullet is free from dents other than one tiny one hard to see at 11 o'clock above the rear screw Blade is not the usual bronze one but is made of aluminum on these K2 models It it coated with what looks to be colored lacquer which is starting to wear I had thought about removing the lacquer and polishing the aluminum for a different look Headwire and power cord are original Headwire is very good with no fraying power cord looks good but is starting to crack Original single speed toggle switch is good Fan starts well and runs and oscillates as it should One of the screws at the base end of the oscillator linkage has been replaced with an incorrect item and that end of the linkage has a slight bend in it Many of the Golden Jubilee fans have a zinc badge and motor tag but this one has the bronze tag and badge Badge has some scratching to it Blade is true and with no dents nicks bends at the rivets or other damage Cage wires are straight and round welds are all good Original bottom felt is fair SOLD 65 SOLD

Right when I was taking photos of the Phoenixes a raven landed on one of the statues' tails That made me realize that there was a heron or some other sort of water bird also sitting on the roof Very cool
